Why did food commodities' prices decline in al-Raqqa?

Since the beginning of Ramadan month, some traders in al-Raqqa have started to manipulate the prices of food commodities in order to exploit the people, and as a result of interference of Control and Supply Committee and the courses formed by the Control Committee in the people's Municipality and control of violations, food prices fell significantly.

"The difference between the past and the present is great, and with competition among traders, prices are more acceptable to the people," said Mustafa al-Jafar, one of the owners of restaurants in al-Raqqa.

"The prices have changed between yesterday and today because of the opening and security of the commercial routes linking the city to the countryside and other cities," said one of the shop owners.

"Prices have fallen after the Monitoring Committee has periodically patrolled to the owners of the shops," said Mohammed al-Khalaf.

For his part, the Co-chair of Monitoring and Supply, Mustafa Abbas said that "the prices have seen a disparity in markets due to the demand for vegetables from outside al-Raqqa city and the traders export them abroad, and in turn we have done the required procedures to reduce prices and take measures against violators."

While the Control Committee in the People's Municipality of in al-Raqqa is working to form patrols to monitor the commercial centers and control prices to alleviate the burden on the people.
