Continuing to restoration of largest cultural monument in al-Tabqa

The Committee on Culture and Art in the Civil Democratic Administration of al-Tabqa area and in cooperation with the Construction Establishment of the Public Finance in the Council of Democratic Syria continues to work on the rehabilitation of the cultural center in the second neighborhood in al-Tabqa city aimed to restore the cultural facade to the city whose cultural center was one of its main pillars.

The workshops of the Construction Corporation began work since the beginning of March, starting with the removal of rubble and debris caused by the repeated air raids carried out by the regime since the occupation of mercenaries "Free Army" of the city.

Rehabilitation works include lifting all rubble, processing the stage on the first floor and first floor rooms in addition to painting the interior walls and re-polishing the exterior stone of the distinctive building in yellow color.

The restoration also includes the installation of false ceilings for the first floor and the processing of the interior and exterior lighting of the building.

After al-Tabqa city fell to the mercenaries of the so-called "Free Army" in February 2013 and a few days later, the air force carried out an air raid, the most violent of its kind on the cultural center and the pillars of smoke rising from the building over two consecutive days destroying a huge urban monument and cultural heritage for the residents of the area.

During the period of occupation of Islamic State's gangs to al-Tabqa city (IS) the rest of the cultural center was transferred to a security detention center.

The largest work remains the restoration of the main theater in the center located in the eastern part of the building, which witnessed in previous periods a great cultural renaissance and the rise of its wood, the greatest artists, writers and thinkers from Syria and the world who was out of service by the previous raids of the regime.

The cultural center is characterized by its distinctive architectural style and its picturesque views on the southern bank of the Euphrates Lake and its large garden that surrounds the center from the four sides, which was the destination of all the inhabitants of al-Tabqa city.

According to the Co-chair of the Committee on Culture and Art, Ali Al-Alaya will complete the restoration and rehabilitation of the cultural center in full at the beginning of next year, according to the work plan that has been studied and developed and worked.
