Torrents in al-Jarniah kill citizens, destroy homes, agricultural fields

On Wednesday, al-Jarniah town has witnessed unprecedented heavy rains that caused torrents in the town and a number of its villages, which resulted in the loss of two citizens for their lives.

ANHA correspondent quoted from the residents of the town, that this rain is the most abundant in the history of the town.

Heavy rains have caused torrents and floods in eastern villages such as Bir Zaher and Sinjar, where the torrents had drifted a 50-year-old elderly woman and a sheep herder who was trying to save his cattle from the flood.

Al-Jarniah Civil Council, accompanied by the Co-chair of the People's Municipality Hamad al-Ahmad, visited the affected villages to view the damage and provide assistance according to the possibilities.

"I have planted orchard of a summer vegetable, which cost me money and now there is nothing left of it because of the flood, which is entered the water into our homes and our rooms," said Ismail al-Hamdush, from Bir Zaher village.

"I have not seen all of my life and we have not had such a flood, it's the first and the biggest," said Fatima al-Awad, an elderly woman.

Al-Jarniah Civil Council promised to provide compensation according to the possibilities after conducting full statistics of the affected houses.

In recent days, Syria has witnessed an orographic depression that led to the formation of torrents in several parts of Syria.
