Agriculture Directorate in al-Tabqa saves more than 22 thousand trees

In an earlier period of occupying al-Tabqa area by Daesh, the public property was taken headquarters and the land was looted, also Daesh has turned Abo Qubea poultry site into a headquarters for training of its mercenaries and prevented the officials of the site, which extends over 20 hectares, from its entry and watering trees, causing drought as a result of negligence.

As a result of this and the importance of the tree in achieving the environmental balance as well as its benefits in supporting the economy, Agriculture Directorate has developed a study of trees, including the damage and its magnitude and the required rehabilitation of the work.

The first steps taken by Agriculture Directorate to save the olive trees located at the site are pruning all the trees, since pruning allows the tree to create a strong trunk to ensure sufficient yield and prolong the useful life of the tree and the removal of dead wood.

Regular irrigation is then carried out to ensure a good season, according to site supervisors and the Co-chair of Economic Commission in al-Tabqa Ahmad al-Sulaiman, "After the liberation of al-Tabqa city and its countryside from IS mercenaries a year ago, agricultural production in the countryside of al-Tabqa was very bad because of the mercenaries practices, but now we are trying to save the olive trees according to our simple possibilities and work hard to solve the problems that we face..”
