Albania calls on NATO to establish military base to confront Russia, Turkey , Iran
Albanian Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka said Albania wants the United States to establish a US military base on its land to counter the influence of Russia, Iran and Turkey as well.

Xhaçka said in a meeting with US Defense Secretary James Matisse at the Defense Department in Washington on Tuesday "I think we should send a strong message that the Western Balkans are a Western-oriented region, that we share the same principles and values and we must protect them."
She added "We believe it is time for the United States to have a presence in Albania."
The Albanian minister said, "Among the threats are Russia, which is trying to strengthen its destabilizing influence and movements, both through its intelligence services and its (or also) media propaganda, as well as China, Iran and even Turkey."
