Imminent disaster if Turkey continues to restrain Euphrates’ water

The administration of al-Hurriya Dam began to close the gates of the spill because of the severe shortage of the dam’s water caused by the Turkish state's continued restraint of the Euphrates River, warning that the continuation of this will stop all dams operating on the Euphrates River on the Syrian side.

The water level in al-Hurriya dam is approximately 00,256 meters above sea level, and the water’s cut caused a decrease of more than 2%, which led to the closure of the flood gates and the stopping of the generation sets in the dam from the continuous work and entry into the rationing system.

The dam is located in al-Mansoura town, south-east of al-Tabqa about 25 km east of the Euphrates dam, located in al-Tabqa.

Each generation group needs to generate large quantities of water to be recycled to 420 cubic meters per second (about 2100 barrels) and generate electricity up to 7 MWPH to maintain the maximum water level, the working hours of the generation sets are reduced to 12 hours instead of 24 hours.

The Turkish role in Syria was not limited to the training and dispatch of mercenary gangs on behalf of the Turkish state and the occupation of areas in North Syria but Turkey continued to hold the Euphrates River through dams set up on the river in areas under its authority so as to fight the people in the basics of his life.

The engineer supervisor al-Hurriya dam Mohammed al-Khalif said that the water level will decline in large proportions with the approach of the summer and high evaporation rate in the water of the river, which amounts to more than 60 cubic meters per second.

Thousands of families in al-Tabqa depend on the Euphrates River to irrigate agricultural crops scattered on the two banks of the river where the Euphrates River is considered the largest source that supplies the Syrian people with drinking water in al-Raqqa provinces and Deir –ez-Zor and up to Aleppo in North Syria.

Al-Kali added "If Turkey continues this aggression, all dams on the Euphrates River will be out of service, threatening the entire region to the danger of drought, desertification and closure of all vital installations and laboratories calling the international community to move quickly to put an end to this farce."
