Zenobia Women's Gathering, women's movements condemn death sentence against Warisha Moradi

The Council of the Zenobia Women's Union and women's movements in Deir ez-Zor Canton issued a statement regarding the death sentence issued by Iranian authorities against Kurdish activist Warisha Moradi.

The council condemned the death sentence against Warisha, emphasizing that the Iranian regime continues to target activists and politicians, especially women leaders who are struggling for freedom, justice, and equality.

The statement released by the council mentioned that Warisha was arrested in 2023 after being beaten near the city of Sanandaj and was transferred to Evin Prison after five months of intense interrogation. Her lawyer was informed of her death sentence on the 10th of this month.

The statement also noted that Warisha Moradi published a message to the public, describing the death sentences as contradictory to justice. She said, "While ISIS cuts off our heads, the Iranian regime hangs us."

The statement called on human rights organizations to intervene to stop the violence and tyranny, stressing that authoritarian regimes do not accept successful women.
