YPJ: spirit of Kobani resistance is our reality; reality of our people

The General Command of the Women's Protection Units issued a statement today on the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation of Kobani from ISIS mercenaries in 2014, which stated:

"The struggle of the people of North and East Syria against the darkness and injustice of the stage revived the faith of the peoples again. Kobani, with its historical resistance, became a destination for humanity seeking freedom. The truth that emerged in Kobani was the truth of a resistant and honorable people. The capitalist modernity system also attacked society with all brutality under the name of ISIS. Because ISIS is the result of capitalist forces, and with its injustice and brutality it has become a great disaster for the peoples. No force has been able to defend the light in the face of darkness. But our forces and people bravely confronted ISIS mercenaries and were able to defeat them.

In 2014, ISIS launched an attack on Kobani with the support of external forces, especially the occupying Turkish state, which provided the opportunity to spread terror and darkness in the region. ISIS left unforgettable tragedies and pains in our regions, and carried out genocide against our people. But the will of our people was stronger than ISIS, and it was the will of women in their struggle for freedom that led them to victory. In Kobani, the female fighters put up a great resistance without asking for support from any external forces. The female fighters of this people sacrificed everything they had to protect their people, and achieved victory with the least means and the strongest beliefs. Certainly, the world witnessed this truth of our fighters and our people, and for this reason it supported

this resistance that confirmed that the Kobani resistance created a spirit of unity among peoples, and a turning point for those aspiring for freedom to defend humanity against darkness. We organized ourselves as revolutionary women under the banner of the Women's Protection Units, which is still growing stronger and expanding, and we wrote heroic epics in the face of ISIS. In every corner of Kobani, we wrote legends about our resistance. Whenever ISIS attacked, it faced the resistance of great revolutionary women. The leadership of women in the Kobani resistance changed the world's view of women. It has overturned all the terms put forward regarding women. The steadfastness of the sacrificial woman has set an example of courage and sacrifice, and this was evident in sacrificial figures such as Revan Rojava, Arin Mirkan, Zehra Banaber and Vian Biman, who sacrificed their lives for the freedom struggle and clarified the standards of women's freedom.

Today, the fighters of the Women's Protection Units continue with the same spirit of the Kobani resistance in the trenches of Tishrin Dam and Qarqozak Bridge against the same dark forces and do not allow any brutal force to occupy a part of their homeland. The resistance of our people and the Protection Units has created a culture of determination and resolve to win no matter the circumstances. The people of North and East Syria continue their struggle alongside their fighters to protect their gains until the end. They will never stop resisting. The reality experienced in the Tishrin Dam area today is an affirmation of our people's determination to resist darkness for freedom no matter the cost. The women's revolution is a reality that is rooted through the participation of all the peoples of North and East Syria in embodying the paradigm of the democratic and ecological nation and demanding women's freedom.

We, the Women's Defense Units (YPJ), confirm that we will continue our struggle for freedom and democracy. The spirit of the Kobani resistance is our reality and the reality of our people. With the spirit of the victory of the Kobani resistance, we will confront all the barbaric occupation attacks. On the anniversary of the liberation of Kobani, we remember with gratitude all the martyrs who gave their lives in this great resistance, starting with martyrs Arin, Rivan, Vian, Mediya and Zehra. We send our greetings to the resistance of our people and the freedom-seeking revolutionaries. We follow in the footsteps of our martyrs and we are determined to complete the freedom struggle until the last breath."
