Young man found murdered in Tel Kocher countryside after detention

The body of a young man, Jalal Ahmad Barakat, was found in the farmlands of Dardara village in the countryside of Tel Kocher, one day after he was taken from his home by a patrol that identified itself as belonging to the General Security forces, according to his family.

Jalal Ahmad Barakat, known as “Hassan,” 25, originally from the village of Biandour in the countryside of Tirbespiye and a resident of Tel Kocher for several years, was killed after disappearing following his arrest from his home by a patrol claiming to be affiliated with the General Security forces of the Interim Government.

According to the young man’s relatives, the patrol raided his home late Wednesday night and took him to an unknown location, assuring the family that he would be questioned and then returned home.

The family added that all contact with Jalal was lost from the moment of his detention, before his body was discovered on Friday evening in the farmlands of Dardara village in the Tel Kocher countryside.

According to his family, Jalal had worked in agriculture alongside his family for years in the Tel Kocher countryside and was well known among local residents.

Jalal was laid to rest yesterday evening in his hometown of Biandour village in the countryside of Tirbespiye, in the presence of villagers and relatives, amid calls to reveal the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
