Women in Deir ez-Zor call for true representation of women in future Syria

After the Zenobia Women's Gathering in Raqqa canton announced the need for Syrian women to participate effectively and influentially in the political process to build a future Syria.

The group saw in a statement yesterday that any national process in Syria without women would be doomed to failure, and demanded that the issue of women and their rights be made a top priority, presenting in this context several demands calling for the participation of Syrian women from different regions and orientations in drafting the new constitution and holding perpetrators of crimes accountable. The killing of women, as well as the representation of women in all sovereign framework.

In this regard, women and members of women’s organizations in Deir ez-Zor canton announced their support for the announcement of the Zenobia Women’s Gathering, and affirmed the same demands, by reading the text of the gathering’s statement, in the Ma’amel area by Shehrazad Al-Jassim, member of the administrative body of the Zenobia Women’s Gathering, and in the Civil Council Square in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, it was read by the member Safaa al-Ahrash.

Among other demands mentioned in the statement of the Zenobia Women’s Association, women must have the right to choose their representatives from all Syrian components, and in all fields, in addition to legal recognition of women’s right to defend themselves and protect their rights in accordance with the new constitution, and adherence to all international treaties  on women’s rights, including them in national legislation, and many other demands.
