The people of the North and East Syria, with all its components, are intensifying their reading of the arguments of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, by forming book reading circles. In this context, Kongra Star organized two sessions to read analyses of Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s assessments regarding ecology within the two volumes (Manifesto of Democratic Civilization “Civilism and Capitalism” and Sociology of Freedom).

The participants initially discussed the main causes of environmental degradation; Fatima Assaf, one of the women participating in the reading circle from the city of Jal Agha, said: “In light of the continuing environmental problems that the world is suffering from, including North and East Syria, women have an essential role in re-establishing the course and correcting the relationship between themselves and the environment and nature, because they feel the environmental problems and are the ones who build generations who are able to feel responsible towards the environment.”

Fatima Assaf explained that the environmental reality forces everyone to take action, and she added: “We will begin with awareness-raising workshops, giving lectures in communes and villages, and special lectures for women on the points that we are discussing today in the session, and we are working to encourage tree planting to combat desertification and modify the climate, and organize clean-up campaigns to protect the environment and create a healthy environment.”

In her turn, Karima Mohammad noted: “At the beginning of nature, there was no environmental pollution, because there was a generous relationship between man and nature, and women had a fundamental role in it, but with the advancement of industry and the era of capitalism, there became a depletion of environmental resources, which led to the emergence of problems such as pollution, deforestation, water shortages, desertification, and many other problems.”

Karima Mohammad pointed out that industrialism has caused many problems in nature, such as problems in the layers of the atmosphere and global warming, and has caused massive destruction of the environment.

Karima Mohammad noted that: “what has been happening in recent years in terms of earthquakes, volcanoes, burning forests, and other problems is the result of the subconscious, and through our practices we have become a tool of capitalism, whose primary goal is to destroy the environment in the service of its profit policy.”

Karima said: “To solve this problem, we must change our lifestyle and methods, and this happens through awareness and knowledge, so we read the books of the leader Abdullah Ocalan in detail, the possible solutions, and the role of women in this, especially since the leader mentioned that he is the basic element in protecting the environment and repairing the destruction that has occurred, and we see it happening through women who raise generations.”

As for Zilan Roj from Girkê Legê, she emphasized: “We, as women, must play the pioneering role in consolidating environmental thought in our regions through environmental activities and community organization according to the environmental approach.”
