Local sources from Afrin confirmed to ANHA correspondent that the fires began at approximately 19:25, describing the incident as unexpected and without prior warning.

They further stressed that no authority has intervened thus far, as the fires continue to spread and consume vast portions of the forested terrain.

According to statistics documented by ANHA Agency, since the occupation of Afrin until March 2025, more than 411,420 trees—many of them centuries old, some estimated at over 320 years—have been cut down for commercial exploitation of timber.

In addition, approximately 12,597 hectares of agricultural land have been deliberately burned by militias affiliated with the Turkish occupying forces.
