In the final statement issued after its 12th Congress, the PKK announced the end of its armed struggle and the cessation of all activities carried out in its name, affirming its intention to adopt a new political approach.

The statement resonated widely across the region, the Middle East, and the world, topping headlines in local, regional, and international media.

Commenting on this development, AKP Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala stated on X: "With the decision taken by the PKK, a significant phase has been passed, and we have reached a highly important level." He added, "At this stage, the necessary mechanisms will be activated to complete the required work and manage the process according to need. We are moving forward with determination toward the goal of a terrorism-free Turkey, as envisioned by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Mr. Devlet Bahçeli with their will and wisdom."

Meanwhile, AKP spokesperson Omar Çelik emphasized on his X account that the PKK's statement represents a fundamental step that opens the door to a new era. He explained that this decision "will greatly strengthen political dialogue channels within all legitimate institutions, starting with the Turkish Parliament. It will also reinforce our understanding that the Republic is a shelter for all of us, and that democracy forms the essential foundation for solving all issues."

Çelik added: "Our future will continue to take shape on solid and legitimate foundations, with awareness of our shared history, destiny, and citizenship. Every positive step will invite more positive steps, and all citizens will be the winners in this process. Our core principle is: Despite our different names, we all carry the title of the Republic of Turkey."

In the same context, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed the PKK's decision to end its armed struggle and transition to political struggle, describing it as a "historic development."

In a statement, Barzani said: "We welcome the PKK’s decision to dissolve itself and lay down arms in response to Mr. Ocalan’s call. We see it as a decisive step that opens a new chapter in the region. This step reflects political maturity and paves the way for genuine dialogue that promotes coexistence and stability in Turkey and the entire region."

Barzani added: "The time has come for all concerned parties to take positive and necessary steps. This initiative creates a suitable ground for achieving lasting and comprehensive peace that ends decades of violence and suffering and leads the region toward new horizons of progress."

Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region's support for all efforts aimed at resolving conflicts through peaceful means, expressing hope that this initiative would mark a critical turning point. He also stressed the Region’s full readiness to offer any kind of assistance and cooperation to ensure the success of this historic opportunity.
