The Aleppo General Establishment for Drinking Water and the Directorate of Water Resources in Aleppo began releasing water from Maydanki Dam into irrigation canals in the Afrin region on Friday, following a rise in the dam's water level and an increase in flow through the canal network.

The authorities urged residents not to swim or enter the irrigation canals and to keep children away from them, warning that the strong water currents could lead to drowning incidents or other injuries.

Maydanki Dam is one of the most important water facilities in Afrin and the northern Aleppo countryside. It supplies drinking water to the city of Afrin and several nearby towns and villages, while also irrigating thousands of hectares of agricultural land, particularly olive groves and seasonal crops, making it a vital source of water for the region.

Farmers in Afrin are awaiting the resumption of water supplies through the irrigation network, highlighting its importance for supporting the agricultural season and improving crop yields. Meanwhile, the relevant authorities reiterated the need to follow safety guidelines and avoid approaching the canals to prevent accidents and protect lives.
