The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that unknown individuals, in the early hours of yesterday, set fire around the shrine of Sheikh Mohammed Al-Ajami in the village of Al-Khandaq, al-Ghab Plain, Hama countryside.

The SOHR noted that the fire caused damage to the surrounding area of the shrine, which has a long history spanning several decades and is considered one of the most prominent religious sites symbolically important to members of the Alawite community in the region.

The incident provoked widespread anger and discontent among the locals, who described it as a “serious violation.” This occurred amid rising incidents of murder and abduction in Hama countryside, the latest of which was a massacre that claimed the lives of four construction workers from the village of Jidrin while returning from work.
