The United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Adam Abdelmoula, affirmed the international organization's readiness to support efforts to extinguish the massive forest fires raging in rural Lattakia, as well as to support those affected, in coordination with relevant partners.

In a statement, Abdelmoula expressed his "sadness and concern over the devastating forest fires in the northern Lattakia countryside, where the rapidly raging flames have forced hundreds of families to flee their homes and destroyed vast areas of agricultural land and vital infrastructure."

He noted that UN teams are on the ground, conducting "urgent assessments to determine the scale of the disaster and the most urgent humanitarian needs."

Abdelmoula said, "At this difficult time, our hearts and thoughts are with the people of Lattakia. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to supporting local authorities and providing immediate assistance to all affected communities, ensuring that urgent needs are met quickly and effectively."

The statement also announced the United Nations' readiness to dispatch "an inter-agency mission to Latakia Governorate, in coordination with authorities and partners, to conduct a broader assessment of the situation and explore ways to provide urgent and long-term support."

The statement concluded by affirming the United Nations' "solidarity with the Syrian people at this critical moment," stressing its "readiness to work alongside all concerned parties to ensure that no one is left behind in the response and recovery efforts."
