The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) has announced the commencement of an investigation into an incident in which an Israeli tank fired two shells across the ceasefire line in Quneitra, resulting in the death of a young man.

UNDOF clarified that its military observers detected the Israeli tank on the "Alpha" side while it was firing the two shells though without identifying the specific point of impact and expressed its concern regarding continued violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Syria and Israel.

The UN force confirmed that it had received reports regarding the death of Osama al-Fahd (17 years old) near the al-Rafid area on Friday. He was killed after being struck by an Israeli shell while inside a vehicle in the town of Rasem al-Zaaroura, in the southern countryside of Quneitra. The force called upon all parties to exercise restraint and emphasized the imperative not to target civilians.
