The UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, said today that the need for an organized political transition in Syria has become more urgent than ever.

In his remarks during a press conference in Doha, Pedersen called for calm and avoiding bloodshed in Syria. The international official also met with representatives from the United States and other Western envoys in the Qatari capital.

Pedersen confirmed that the situation in Syria is changing every minute, and called for calm and avoiding bloodshed. He also called for urgent talks in Geneva to implement UN Resolution No. 2,254.

Resolution number "2,254" was issued by the United Nations Security Council on December 18, 2015, and it includes several provisions aimed at halting hostilities in Syria and launching an inclusive political process under the auspices of the United Nations that leads to a democratic political transition in the country.

Pedersen warned last Tuesday that the situation in Syria is dangerous and volatile, adding that vast areas of the country are under the control of non-state actors, and that the situation could lead to the resurgence of ISIS.
