UN International Commission of Inquiry on Syria concludes visit to Sweida

The UN International Commission of Inquiry on Syria announced the conclusion of its second visit to Sweida, noting the recording of a “huge number” of violations and abuses in the governorate.

In a statement, the Commission revealed that its second tour included visits to Sweida and displaced communities in other Syrian cities.

The Commission said it heard “horrifying” testimonies from residents regarding violations committed against civilians.

It stated that “many acts were carried out in a brutal and inhumane manner.”

The Commission also announced that it has submitted additional preliminary recommendations to relevant parties to address ongoing human rights concerns, particularly in light of continued displacement and the approaching winter season.

It emphasized that it does not publish phone numbers or other contact methods on any online platform, and that the only channel for providing information to the Commission is available through its official website.

The statement concluded by stressing that the scale of violations and abuses is immense, expressing gratitude for the cooperation and access granted so far, and confirming that its investigations are ongoing.
