UN delegation visits Kobani to assess humanitarian situation, discuss ways to enhance support

To assess the humanitarian and health situation in Kobani, which has been under siege since January 20th, a delegation from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) visited the headquarters of the Autonomous Administration in the city to discuss mechanisms for providing the region with essential supplies and necessities.

The delegation was received by the Presidential Body of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration in Kobani, along with representatives from service institutions, at the Autonomous Administration building.

Discussions focused on the humanitarian and health challenges facing the residents of Kobani, and ways to enhance coordination among the economic, agricultural, energy, water, childcare, education, and bakery sectors, with the aim of securing basic services and meeting the needs of the population under the current circumstances.

Both sides emphasized the importance of intensifying joint efforts and taking practical steps to improve living conditions, address urgent humanitarian needs, and alleviate the suffering of the population amid the forced displacement and siege imposed on the city.

At the conclusion of the visit, both sides expressed their commitment to continuing joint cooperation to achieve stability and improve living conditions, particularly for those forcibly displaced in shelters. They emphasized the need for effective coordination among relevant parties to ensure the delivery of aid in the best possible way.

Following the meeting, the UN delegation, accompanied by members of the Autonomous Administration, conducted a field visit to shelters in the city to gain firsthand insight into the living conditions in Kobani under the ongoing siege.

It is worth mentioning that the Interim Government factions have been imposing a suffocating siege on the city of Kobani since January 20th, which continues to this day.
