The Deputy UN Special Envoy to Syria voiced "deep concern" over reports of violence and abductions, calling for immediate action to protect civilians and de-escalate tensions.

Najat Rochdi, the Deputy UN Special Envoy to Syria, expressed her "deep concern over reports of violence and abductions in Syria’s Suweida province, which have resulted in a significant number of casualties."

She urged the transitional government in Syria and relevant local actors to take immediate steps to protect civilians, restore calm, and prevent incitement. Rochdi emphasized the urgent need for genuine integration, confidence-building, and meaningful dialogue to advance a credible and inclusive political transition process in Syria, based on principles of independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

In the same context, the Autonomous Administration condemned the direct attacks and threats targeting the safety and security of Suweida’s residents, describing them as unacceptable by all national and humanitarian standards.

It called on all parties committed to Syria’s unity and the safety of its people to "stand united to stop these practices and attacks targeting civilians and to work toward protecting civil peace and the Syrian social fabric, which forms the cornerstone of any comprehensive national project."

The death toll from the armed clashes and mutual shelling in Suweida province since Sunday morning, July 13, has risen to 80, including children and women.
