Turkish occupatipn prevents meeting with leader Ocalan for another 6 months

The Turkish authorities imposed a new “disciplinary penalty” that prevents leader Abdullah Ocalan from meeting with his lawyer for a period of 6 months. In objection to this penalty, the lawyers will review the Supreme Constitutional Court.

No information has been received about Leader Abdullah Ocalan, who has been detained in the high-security Imrali prison under strict isolation, since March 25, 2021. The Turkish authorities imposed a new “disciplinary punishment” preventing Leader Ocalan and the other detainees in Imrali; Khayri Kunar, Weysi Aktaş and Hamili Yildirim were unable to meet with their lawyers for six months.

The lawyers of the Al-Asr Office visited the Second Execution Court in Bursa in order to meet with their client, only to realize that on the third of this May, a new disciplinary penalty had been imposed preventing them from meeting with their clients for a period of 6 months, and the lawyers did not obtain any information or details about the reason for the penalty.

All requests to object to the aforementioned penalty were rejected, so the lawyers will review the Supreme Constitutional Court.

With the latest decision, the Turkish authorities have imposed, in the last 8 years, at least 13 “disciplinary penalties” that prohibit meeting with lawyers.
