Turkish occupation deprives 41,000 people of drinking water

The bombardment by the Turkish occupiers and their mercenaries of the city of Ain Issa and its countryside with all types of heavy and light weapons, as well as drones, and their direct targeting of the main drinking water stations, either by directly hitting the station itself or targeting the cables that supply it with electricity, has rendered them out of service.

Among the service facilities targeted during the recent escalation were the water collection tank in Ain Issa, al-Hisha water station, and  al-Fatisa water station, which led to their being out of service.

To discuss the damages at those stations, we had an interview with the co-chair of the Ain Issa Water Directorate, Sana'a Al-Ali, who said: "The Turkish occupation has focused during its recent escalation on service facilities to pressure the residents and deprive them of services. It directly targeted the water collection tank and the electricity cables supplying the al-Hisha raw and purified stations, in addition to completely destroying the al-Fatisa station during these attacks."

She indicated that "these damages caused water supply disruptions to 65 villages (45 in al-Hisha and 20 in Ain Issa) with a population of 41,000 people (22,000 people in the town of al-Hisha and its affiliated villages and 19,000 people in Ain Issa and its countryside)."

And she warned: "The prolonged water cut for the residents will drive them to unsafe water sources to meet their needs, which could lead to the spread of diseases."

Regarding their solutions to meet the needs of the residents during the outage, Sana said: "They only have one water tank, which operates 24 hours a day, and it is not sufficient to meet the needs and does not serve the purpose."

The co-chair of the Water Directorate in Ain Issa concluded her speech by stating that, until now, they have not been able to repair some damages due to the difficulty of accessing those facilities and the targeting of their workshops by the Turkish occupiers.

The relevant authorities in the Euphrates region estimated in a report published on their official website that the material losses incurred by vital (water) facilities due to the Turkish bombardment so far amount to one million dollars, and thousands of families have been affected due to the water supply disruption.
