On October 8, Turkish forces stationed in the countryside of Serê Kaniyê prevented residents returning with the fourth convoy from entering their villages of al-Manakh, al-Faisaliyah, al-Darbo, al-Knihir, al-Saeed and al-Hajjaj.

In this regard, Mahmoud Jamil, spokesperson for the Serê Kaniyê Displaced Persons Committee, said several displaced families had been unable to enter their villages because of the presence of Turkish military bases inside them.

Jamil noted that more than four villages continued to face this problem, including al-Manakh, Bab al-Faraj, Dawoudiyah Mal Salman, al-Arisha and al-Darbo.

He explained that families returning to the area had been forced to set up tents on the outskirts of their villages after being denied entry. Describing their suffering, he said residents had “moved from the tents of displacement camps to new tents of suffering on the outskirts of their villages.”

Jamil added that the Serê Kaniyê Displaced Persons Committee continued to raise the issue during meetings with the presidential team, calling for pressure on the Turkish government to withdraw its military bases, which he described as the main obstacle to ensuring the safe return of displaced residents.

He noted that the villages remained under the control of Turkish military bases, which prevented residents from approaching even the earthen berms surrounding them. He stressed that the continuation of this situation prevented residents from returning to their homes and resuming their normal lives.

The spokesperson for the Serê Kaniyê Displaced Persons Committee appealed to the United Nations, international powers and Syria’s transitional government to intervene and work toward the withdrawal of Turkish military bases from the countryside of Serê Kaniyê and its surroundings, ensuring that displaced residents could safely return to their villages and homes, free from pressure and violations.

He also called on Syria’s transitional government to engage with the Turkish government and pressure it to withdraw its bases, allowing displaced residents to return to their villages and city safely and with dignity.
