A member of the Syrian Lawyers Initiative to Defend Leader Abdullah Ocalan, Ala al-Din al-Khaled Kalo, confirmed: “From the date of the leader’s kidnapping until today, all measures taken against him are illegal, and are considered invalid from the point of view of international and UN laws, and even Turkish laws.”

Turkey is a capitalist tool to fight democratic modernity

Ala al-Din al-Khaled Kalo considered that the trial before which Leader Abdullah Ocalan was presented was a formal sham trial whose decisions could not be relied upon, and he said: “If it were presented in an impartial manner to legal specialists, it would not even be accepted by Turkish laws, and this trial was formulated with the conspiracy of all the participating capitalist countries, led by the United States and Britain.

As for the reason for the kidnapping, Kalo said: “The countries ruled by capitalist modernity saw the spread of the thought of leader Abdullah Ocalan, represented by the thought of democratic modernity, as a threat to the continuity of their rule. Therefore, they planned to turn Turkey into a tool in targeting this thought, but they failed.”

Imrali classification

Kalo stressed that Imrali Prison violates international prison regulations, including Turkish prisons, which are: "a place for practicing terrorism, and leader Abdullah Ocalan called it the Island of Death, due to the abductees being deprived of their minimum rights."

Kalo noted that: “There are no visits to the families or lawyers, and there is media secrecy regarding it. The health data of the abductees is hidden, and it is forbidden to examine the place of residence or provide the press with periodic data about the conditions of the detainees in an accurate and credible manner.”

Lawyer Kalo stressed that there is an exceptional provision in Turkish prison regulations indicating that even if a disciplinary penalty is imposed against a prisoner or detainee, it will not affect the lawyers’ visits to their clients, which reveals that the Turkish state is adopting methods contrary to its laws to prevent the leader Abdullah Ocalan from meeting with his clients.

Kalo stressed: “The critical dates must be taken seriously. The Turkish state wants, through veiled messages, to break the will of the Kurdish people who are resistant and yearning for freedom. The day the death sentence was issued against the leader Abdullah Ocalan coincided with the day on which Sheikh Saeed was executed, but the people’s uprising prevented to implement this.

Kalo noted that after the death penalty was abolished against leader Abdullah, from a legal point of view, the trial should have been repeated with the presence of neutral judges, but the Turkish occupation state replaced the death penalty with life imprisonment, which is another illegal point in violation of international regulations.

Right to hope

Aladdin explained: “According to international law, leader Abdullah Ocalan must be granted the right to hope and achieve his physical freedom, but Turkey withholds this right from the leader, under the pretext of threatening Turkish security.”

Turkey is one of the countries that signed the necessity of granting the right to hope to prisoners, a right that was adopted by the German Constitutional Court for the first time in 1977, and stipulates that freedom be granted to anyone who is sentenced to life imprisonment, twenty years after his imprisonment, or after he exceeds the age of 70, and the two conditions are: Two achievements for leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Kalo stressed that the Turkish occupation state, in collusion with the capitalist countries that want to foil the Kurdish issue, is circumventing the legal systems, including (the Charter of the United Nations, the lofty principles of human rights, and the laws and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights). In dealing with the file of Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Kalo stressed that the global campaign launched under the name “Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, the political solution to the Kurdish issue” has a major role in moving the Imrali file again.

Ala al-Din al-Khalid Kalo called for the continuation of popular and mass activities demanding the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan.
