Turkey imposes control over 3 municipalities in N. Kurdistan

The authorities in Turkey have imposed their dominance over the municipalities of Mardin, Êlih, and Khelfeti in N. Kurdistan by appointing trustees. They have also arrested the co-chair of Khelfeti municipality, reflecting ongoing political tensions and attempts to assert control over local administration in these areas.

The Turkish Ministry of Interior appointed three trustees to manage these municipalities, which are governed by the Democratic and Equality Party (DEM Party), namely Mardin, Êlih, and Khelfeti.

The imposition of trustees came after the Turkish authorities' police forces surrounded the municipality buildings managed by the Democratic and Equality Party (DEM Party) since dawn today.

The decision to impose a trustee on the Mardin municipality was conveyed to the co-chair of Mardin, Ahmed Turk, simultaneously with the encirclement of the municipality building.

With the imposition of a trustee on the Khelfeti municipality, located in the Urfa province, the Turkish authorities arrested the co-chair, Mohammad Karayilan.
