Since the Syrian Democratic Forces ended the geographical control of ISIS mercenaries in March 2029, ISIS’s efforts to return have not stopped, especially to the areas that have been under its control for years, such as “Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor,” starting from areas under its control.

Fears are increasing among the people of NE Syria about the revival of ISIS, with its noticeable activity in Damascus-held areas in the Syria desert, the most recent of which was blocking of the vital Deir ez-Zor-Raqqa road, and attacking on two villages in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

As the tribes have a prominent role in the region, the notables see the tribes assuming their responsibilities to educate society as an urgent necessity and a duty to contribute to combating these extremist ideas, in addition to their participation within the Syrian Democratic Forces and the security forces.

One of the notables of the Maamra tribe, Ali Al-Khalaf, pointed out the importance of awareness, saying: “As ISIS mercenaries entered many Syrian regions in the name of Islam, they have politicized Islam to achieve their goal, so it is necessary to continue educating society about the danger of ISIS

Al-Khalaf stressed that the main role of tribal figures will be in educating society about the reality of mercenaries, and their exploitation religion.

For his part, Fayez Al-Jadaan, the sheikh of the Albu Sheikh clan in the “Bakara” tribe, said: “We always emphasize, in the meetings held between the clans, the awareness of the tribesmen and warning them against being drawn into the extremist ideas of ISIS and its mercenaries, and the necessity of the clans to stand up to this group and limit the spread of its thoughts."

Al-Jadaan stressed, "All clans of NE Syria must cooperate with their sons in the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces to limit the activity of ISIS mercenaries."

Worth to note that the areas of NE Syria are witnessing coordination between Turkish occupation attacks and mercenaries in targeting the military forces, employees of the Autonomous Administration and prominent community figures, despite the ongoing operations of Syrian Democratic Forces and the Internal Security.
