At around 5 p.m. on Monday, transitional government forces in Syria sealed off all entrances and exits to Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, days after erecting earthen barriers and closing several access roads. This was followed by drone attacks and subsequent attempts to storm the neighborhoods using armored vehicles. Residents took to the streets to defend their areas, while the Internal Security Forces repelled the assaults.

Clashes continued late into the night before the attacking transitional government forces were eventually forced to withdraw.

According to initial reports, the attacks and shelling targeting civilians resulted in the martyrdom and injury of several civilians.

Currently, a tense calm prevails in the two neighborhoods as transitional government forces continue to maintain their positions around them, raising serious fears that military escalation could erupt again at any moment.
