Transitional Govt. establishes new checkpoints; earth barriers around Sheikh Maqsoud- Ashrafieh

The Syrian Transitional Government forces today established new military points along the Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood in Aleppo, in a new violation of the agreements and understandings signed on April 1 of this year.

The Transitional Government forces continue to breach the April 1 Agreement by creating numerous military checkpoints and raising earth barriers around the Sheikh Maqsoud and Al-Ashrafieh neighborhoods.

In the latest documentation of these violations, our correspondent observed the establishment of a new military checkpoint on the hill of Tariq Bin Ziyad Park located near the Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood, in addition to raising earth barriers at the same site.

Clause 5 of the April 1 Agreement states: "Earth barriers must be removed from public roads while maintaining the main checkpoints, under the supervision of the Internal Security Forces affiliated with the Ministry of Interior until security and stability are restored in the two neighborhoods."

Clause 3 refers to the responsibility of the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces, to protect the residents of the two neighborhoods and prevent any attacks or harm against them.

Observers see these steps as part of a series of repeated violations aimed at undermining efforts to maintain security and stability, making close monitoring of the situation and taking necessary measures to preserve public safety essential.

It is worth mentioning that two members of the Internal Security Forces in Aleppo were seriously injured today in an attack carried out by Transitional Government forces on a joint checkpoint at Al-Sheihan roundabout in the Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood. They were transported to the hospital for treatment.
