Transitional government targets villages in western countryside of Sweida

The western countryside of Sweida witnessed a new violation of the ceasefire today, as the town of Majdal came under organized attack from three axes, including the use of heavy machine guns and mortar shells.

According to ANHA correspondent, one wave of attacks originated from the town of Al-Mazra'a, where the Transitional Government forces are stationed, while the other two axes came from positions west of the village of Majdal, using heavy and medium machine guns toward the surrounding villages.

In another violation, just hours after the first attack, Syrian Transitional Government forces stationed in the villages of Rima Hazem and Mansoura targeted civilian homes in the village of Atil with heavy machine guns, causing panic among residents.

This escalation comes amid fears of an escalation of the clashes, at a time when Sweida is experiencing a stifling siege and escalating security tensions despite the declared truce.

Sweida, in southern Syria, is experiencing a state of anxiety following the outbreak of bloody clashes on July 13 between transitional government forces and affiliated militants on one side, and local Druze military forces on the other. These clashes resulted in the deaths of 1,568 people, including 349 who were summarily executed. The clashes ended with a ceasefire agreement on July 19 between the two sides under international auspices.

The commander of the Sweida Military Council, Tariq al-Shoufi, confirmed to ANHA agency the continued violations of the ceasefire on the Sweida fronts, emphasizing their continued defense of the region and their commitment to international agreements. He also expressed their readiness to coordinate with the international coalition and other international forces to protect the region and control security.
