Transitional Government checkpoints hinder movement, limit entry of supplies into Sheikh Maqsoud- Ashrafieh

The transitional government checkpoints in Syria, deployed for nearly a week, have been preventing the passage of diesel and some essential supplies into the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, in addition to restricting the movement of residents. This is a violation of Articles (3) and (8) of the Aleppo Agreement.

ANHA agency's correspondent in Aleppo city has monitored, over the past week, violations by the transitional government checkpoints in Syria of Articles (3) and (8) of the Aleppo Agreement, restricting the movement of residents between the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods and the entry of essential supplies into the two neighborhoods.

Article (8) stipulates that freedom of movement is guaranteed for residents of the two neighborhoods and that no one whose hands were not stained with Syrian blood prior to the agreement is to be prosecuted. Article (3) places the responsibility on the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces, to protect the residents of the two neighborhoods and prevent any attacks against them.

The transitional government's checkpoints prevent residents of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods from moving freely, whether within the city or between Aleppo and areas of northeastern Syria. This measure has led to the suspension of the entry of essential supplies, including diesel and other essential goods, for more than a week, a move reminiscent of the siege previously imposed by the former regime's forces.

It is worth noting that these practices coincide with increased movements by members of the transitional government around the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, and the operation of reconnaissance aircraft over the two neighborhoods for nearly two weeks.
