Traffic: Excessive speed, failure to comply with traffic laws are behind rise of accidents

The General Directorate of Traffic in North and East Syria warned of the increase in traffic accidents, stressing that excessive speed and failure to comply with traffic laws are among the main causes. It emphasized the enforcement of laws against violators and the need to adhere to traffic signals to preserve lives.

The General Directorate of Traffic in North and East Syria issued a statement on Friday, warning of the significant increase in the number of traffic accidents recently. It confirmed that the primary causes are excessive speed and failure to adhere to traffic laws and regulations.

The statement included,

"The Traffic Directorate is following with concern the increase in traffic accidents across North and East Syria recently, which have resulted in the death of many people and the injury of others with various wounds, negatively impacting the security and safety of society.

This reality requires all of us, institutions and individuals, to seriously address its causes and fulfill our responsibilities to preserve lives.

The primary causes of these accidents are excessive speed, failure to adhere to traffic laws and regulations, wrongful overtaking, and the unsafe use of vehicles. Some cases of negligence and lack of regular vehicle maintenance have also contributed to the high accident rates.

Accordingly, the Traffic Directorate emphasizes the following:

Strongly enforce traffic laws against violators and hold accountable anyone who endangers the lives of others.

Urge drivers to strictly adhere to speed limits and traffic signals and regulations.

Launching awareness campaigns in cooperation with the media and community organizations to spread the culture of traffic safety.

Enhancing coordination with health and security authorities to ensure rapid response to accidents and reduce losses.

Calling on families and the community to contribute to reducing accidents through continuous guidance for drivers, especially young people.

The Traffic Directorate mourns the victims of traffic accidents and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured, it reiterates its commitment to ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety, and calls on all drivers to assume their humanitarian and legal responsibilities in protecting lives.

Compliance with traffic laws is everyone's responsibility, and cooperation is our way to protect lives."
