The process of registering Kurdish citizens classified as unregistered (Maktoumeen al-Qayd) continues in the city of Hasakah, specifically at the City Council building in the Tel Hajar neighborhood, with a large turnout of citizens seeking to formalize their official records and benefit from the decision.

In this context, Bahar Mahmoud, a member of the registration committee, explained that work is ongoing within the designated centers and confirmed that procedures are proceeding in an organized and smooth manner despite some challenges.

She noted that cases of exploitation by some mukhtars have been recorded, taking advantage of the high turnout of citizens, and clarified that the committee is following up on these cases and taking the necessary measures to address them.

She added that the decision has created a glimmer of hope for Kurdish citizens in the unregistered category, who have suffered for many years from the lack of official recognition, stressing the committee’s commitment to simplifying procedures and easing the burden on citizens.

She indicated that the turnout has been significant, especially in the first weeks, with around 100 individuals registering daily, while the total number of registrants has exceeded 3,000 within fifteen days.

She expressed hope that all concerned individuals will be able to register their names within the specified timeframe to ensure they obtain their legal rights.

The process of registering unregistered Kurdish citizens across Syria began on April 6.
