14 days ago, the journalist and editor of Roj News Agency, Suleiman Muhammad Ahmed, was kidnapped by Kurdistan Democratic Party forces, when he entered the Fish Khabur crossing into Southern Kurdistan, coming from visiting his family in Aleppo.

Journalist Suleiman went to visit his family in the city of Aleppo on October 1, after the death of his father, Muhammad Ahmed, at the age of 66 years.

The Asayish forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Dohuk told lies through a statement full of contradictions in which they admitted to kidnapping Suleiman, and the forces threatened to punish journalist Suleiman by imprisoning him.

Suleiman Ahmed has been working as an editor in the Arabic section at Roj News Agency for nearly 5 years.

Roj News Agency denounced the arrest of its agency member, and called on the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK) authorities to reveal Suleiman’s fate and release him immediately. It also rejected and strongly condemned the false accusations made by the “Asayish” in Dohuk, and stressed that the Kurdistan Democratic Party authorities are responsible for Suleiman’s safety and life.

Dozens of local, regional and international media organizations demanded the release of the editor of Roj News Agency, Suleiman Ahmed. Both CPJ and RSF, which are concerned with the rights of journalists at the global level, issued a decision to drop the charges against journalist Suleiman and release him immediately.
