TEV-DEM praises efforts of DAANES for education in mother tongue

The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) issued today a statement on the occasion of Kurdish Language Day, which falls on the fifteenth of May every year, in which it sent the highest congratulations and blessings to the Kurdish people throughout Kurdistan and in the diaspora, in celebration of this dear occasion.

The movement emphasized in its statement that the Kurdish language, despite being subjected to attempts to obliterate and assimilate it, has maintained a strong presence and witnessed a remarkable renaissance in various fields, thanks to the struggle of the Kurdish people and their strong will inspired by the Kurdish liberation movements against all attempts of abolition and exclusion.

In this context, TEV-DEM emphasized the need to remember the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in order to preserve the existence of the Kurdish people, who suffered for decades from the policies of extermination, denial and forced disappearance practiced by authoritarian regimes, which continue to this day.

The movement also expressed its high appreciation for the efforts of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in NE Syria, which utilized its resources to ensure the consolidation of education in the mother tongue and the preservation of the right to learn and express in it, by enshrining this in the social contract. The movement emphasized that the Kurdish language is the identity of the Kurdish people and the basis of their existence, which preserves their specificity and promotes the values of coexistence, brotherhood of peoples and unity of destiny throughout history.
