In a statement addressed to public opinion, TEV-DEM commented on the comprehensive ceasefire agreement reached between the SDF and the interim government in Syria.

The statement said: “Stemming from our national and societal responsibility, and out of our commitment to preserving lives and protecting achievements, we in the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) are closely following the recently concluded agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian government. We consider it the beginning of a new phase of political struggle to entrench the rights of our people, away from wars and bloodshed.

In TEV-DEM, we view this agreement as an important step toward consolidating stability, halting the cycle of conflict, and opening the door to a political solution based on dialogue and understanding, far from the logic of exclusion and militarization. We stress that any serious political process must guarantee the rights of all components of the Syrian people, foremost among them the Kurdish people, as well as all other components that have suffered decades of marginalization and denial.

Our support for this agreement stems from our confidence in our political and military leadership, which has protected our people and their achievements since the beginning of the revolution, and from our belief that the solution in Syria must be Syrian–Syrian, based on mutual recognition, respect for particularities, and the guarantee of peoples’ rights in this vital region of our homeland’s geography, which has proven its ability to protect civil peace and confront terrorism.

We also emphasize that the success of this agreement depends on the commitment of all parties to implement its provisions in a spirit of partnership and responsibility, to ensure that the Syrian Democratic Forces are not undermined as a national achievement that played a decisive role in defeating ISIS, and to preserve the democratic experience that was built through great sacrifices and bloodshed.

While calling on our people and their political and societal forces to approach this agreement with awareness and responsibility, to protect civil peace, and to reject all forms of incitement, and to work together for a democratic future that guarantees dignity, justice, and freedom for all Syrians—especially our resilient and sacrificing people who stood on the front lines of struggle and resistance against terrorism—we simultaneously extend our thanks and appreciation to the Kurdish people in all parts of Kurdistan and around the world, who turned all arenas into spaces for defending and supporting the achievements of Rojava. We also salute the support of Kurdish political parties and forces, political figures, and the countries that backed peaceful solutions and contributed to the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian government reaching the recent agreement, which we hope will be realized on the ground.”
