Tabqa–Salamiyah road closed for 9th day, travelers prevented crossing

The transitional government forces in Syria continue to close the road connecting the city of Tabqa in the North and East Syria to the city of Salamiyah in the Hama countryside for the ninth consecutive day, preventing the movement of travelers and goods between the two areas.

Travelers between NE Syria and the interior regions continue to suffer, as the closure of the Tabqa–Salamiyah road enters its ninth day due to the continued prevention of vehicle and civilian passage by the transitional government forces.

The transitional government forces had completely closed the road to civilian and cargo traffic on October 5, deploying at the Zakiyah junction near the Athriya area in the Syrian desert of Hama, which resulted in thousands of travelers, including patients and students, being stranded and unable to continue their journey.

According to statements from several bus drivers, these forces also closed some alternative routes that travelers had previously used out of necessity, which were previously accessible for payments to local smugglers.

Meanwhile, the road remains open on the side of the Autonomous Administration around the clock, with dozens of buses attempting daily to reach the transitional government checkpoints in hopes of being allowed to pass, only to be forced to return after hours of waiting without success.

It is worth noting that the transitional government had previously closed the Deir Hafer–Aleppo road on September 27 and targeted it several times, resulting in injuries to several civilians. Its vehicles were also seen placing dirt barriers on the road in the Deir Hafer area in an attempt to tighten the blockade on routes leading to NE Syria.
