Syrian Yazidis Union warns of repeat of mass massacre against Alawites

The Yazidis Union of Syria issued a statement to the public opinion, condemning the violence and repression perpetrated by the Syrian Transitional Government against the demonstrators in the coastal and inside regions of Syria, and warning against a repeat of the massacres committed against them.

In its statement, The Yazidis Union of Syria denounced the excessive force used by the Syrian Transitional Government against the peaceful demonstrations in various areas of the Syrian coast and interior, saying, "We express our full solidarity with the protesters who took to the streets after the atrocities committed by the General Security Forces and their affiliated factions during their year of interim rule reached an intolerable level."

The Union emphasized that the Transitional Government's role is to create a suitable environment for establishing a system of governance agreed upon by all components and segments of the population, not to impose a system of a single ideology and form by force on everyone, using various forms of "terrorism" and repression that have reached the point of committing massacres against many of the country's communities, such as Alawites, Druze, Christians, Yazidis, Kurds, Armenians, and Syriacs. The harm has even extended to the Sunni Arab civilians and various political forces that believe in human rights and democratic civil values.

The Union made clear, "The outright refusal to engage flexibly with different opinions will not succeed in suppressing the legitimate demands of the various Syrian communities for a viable political life and a secure existence, and the consideration of demands for autonomous-administration, federalism, and decentralized governance as treasonous acts orchestrated by external forces will drag us back into the cycle of oppressive regimes and the experiences. This is precisely what we have always sought to avoid, given its disastrous consequences for all Syrians and for Syria in the first-class."

The Union noted, "The other cannot be annihilated. The only way forward is through dialogue to find common ground, not chauvinistic policies that divide us."

The Union affirmed, "Repressive experiments have proven their failure time and again, no matter how long they persist. All experiences have confirmed the triumph of the people's will. Therefore, the deployment of tanks and armored vehicles by the Interim Government in the streets to intimidate the Syrian people does not frighten us; rather, it makes the Interim Government and its army in a ridiculous and pathetic position. An army that does not intimidate external enemies will not intimidate its own people. If the state truly possessed the power, why does it condone the foreign occupation of precious parts of our homeland, Syria?"

The Yazidi Union expressed its solidarity with all those who call for freedom, democracy, and decentralized federalism; a goal it will not compromise on.

The Union wished mercy for the martyrs, a speedy recovery for the wounded, and the unconditional release of the detainees.
