Syrian transitional govt. deploys heavy weapons around Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh

Since the evening hours and into the morning, factions linked to the transitional government have continued to mobilize military hardware and heavy weapons, including tanks, in the vicinity of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo.

At 21:50, one of the Internal Security Forces’ positions near the Sheihan roundabout in the two neighborhoods came under a sudden attack using RPG shells, according to a statement issued by the forces.

The Internal Security Forces responded to the sources of fire within the framework of their legitimate right to self-defense. This was followed by the deployment of heavy military vehicles by factions affiliated with the transitional government around the two neighborhoods.

The vehicles and tanks brought in by the transitional government’s factions were positioned near the fire station along the Sheihan axis, al-Awarid, the Agriculture Roundabout, the al-Hallak checkpoint, and near Ashrafieh Park.

At around 23:45, the transitional government’s factions shelled the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods with more than six shells, targeting the northern area adjacent to the Shqeif area, causing panic among residents and material damage.

Factions affiliated with the transitional government also entered the al-Jalaa neighborhood, adjacent to Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, forcing residents to evacuate their homes under the pretext of a possible new attack. After civilians left, those factions looted the contents of several houses.
