National Guard: Jordanian airstrikes target drug networks

In a new statement, the Sweida National Guard Command said that the airstrikes carried out by the Jordanian Air Force directly targeted “drug smuggling networks in areas under the control and administration of the terrorist government in Damascus,” particularly in the village of Al-Shaab and several farms and agricultural lands near the border.

The command stated: “Targeting these networks involved in drug and weapons smuggling represents a shared interest for the people of Jabal Bashan and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, given the serious threat these gangs pose to the security and stability of the region.”

It added that residents of the mountain have made extensive efforts over recent years to combat drugs, noting that “a military operation was carried out against a gang operating in coordination with Hezbollah, which had brought a Captagon press into Sweida, and this phenomenon was completely eliminated within fifteen days.”

The statement explained that these strikes coincide with local operations targeting smuggling routes across the eastern desert of the mountain, where “a number of vehicles were targeted in recent weeks,” while refraining for now from publishing photos and videos pending the completion of information related to smuggling incidents carried out by individuals from tribes in the Damascus countryside.

The National Guard criticized what it described as “a systematic incitement campaign led by the media of the authority in Damascus,” saying that “some funded networks are promoting lies and rumors under false official labels with the aim of spreading fear and sowing chaos in society and neighboring countries.”

The statement affirmed that “the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is well aware of the sources of smuggling and those behind them,” stressing respect for Jordan’s concerns and its legitimate right to protect its security, while emphasizing “the need for precision in strikes to ensure the safety of citizens in border-adjacent areas.”

The National Guard also announced its “full readiness to cooperate on this file to deny the terrorist rule and its partners the opportunity to export chaos through weapons and drugs.”
