Dozens of Syrian university students demonstrated today in front of the Ministry of Higher Education building in the capital, Damascus, demanding the abolition of the national exam as a mandatory requirement for obtaining a graduation certificate. This move is part of a series of escalating student protests against what they described as the "defunct education system."

The students asserted that the national exam has become a tool for exploitation and corruption, noting that the Damascus Authority continues to rely on an educational structure inherited from the era of the Ba'athist regime, forcing students to pass an exam that has no connection to quality standards and is instead used as an obstacle to obtaining degrees and employment.

Students revealed the existence of corruption networks linked to exams during the era of the former regime. Documents, conversations with professors and brokers, and payment receipts prove that the educational system is involved in a massive corruption case.

The demonstrators pointed out that "Minister of Higher Education Dr. Marwan al-Halabi did not respond to their previous demands and even refused to receive a delegation from them."
