Syrian opponent refers that Turkish occupation efforts in Syria amid current changes

The Turkish occupation state continues its attacks on the region of North and East Syria, and during the past few days it has launched new threats to penetrate and occupy other Syrian regions, coinciding with the holding of a new round of the "Astana Track" No. 22, which ended without its final statement addressing the controversial issues between the so-called guarantor states (Turkey - Iran - Russia). 

These threats come after a new wave of air strikes on infrastructure in the region of North and East Syria during last October.

Expansion Plan

The Syrian opponent figure, Ali al-Amin, spoke to ANHA's agency about this, saying: "Turkey is planning to seize the entirety of northern Syria, 40 km deep, starting from the current borders, under the pretext of securing its national borders. In reality, it is seeking this as an expansionist step that will fulfill the dreams of the Turkish state in seizing lands from Syria and Iraq, as they talk about in the Turkish Misak-ı Millî."

He explained, "Turkey has so far been able to gain direct physical control over half of the borders west of the Euphrates and has so far been able to achieve a large part of its colonial plans. It is waiting until it obtains a mandate from the Assad regime that will remove the accusation of occupation."

Turkey is seeking to legitimize its occupation.

 The Secretary confirmed that "Turkey is seeking to legitimize its occupation of northern Syria by amending the Adana Agreement of 1998, or by creating a similar agreement that enables it to occupy under the pretext of protecting its national and patriotic interests."

Regarding the possibility of the Turkish occupying state launching any new ground military operations in Syrian territory, Al-Amin believed that "the conditions are not fully prepared for a Turkish incursion at the moment, but Turkey has made considerable progress in creating the atmosphere for it. It has repeatedly called on the Assad regime to meet for understanding, but Assad has refused."

And he added," But he added: “What is interesting is that Turkey knows for sure that meeting with Assad will not contribute to doing anything. He is not able to respond to Turkey in the first place, because such a move means clashing with the United States of America, and Turkey knows that, and it knows that Assad’s response will be rejection because of his inability and not because of his ridiculous conditions, such as Turkey’s withdrawal from the north, which will never happen.”

Al-Amin wondered, "If Turkey knows that al-Assad will not respond, why is it publicly calling on Damascus to sit down for negotiations?" He added, answering, "Quite simply, Turkey is planning to place these demands and this rejection within the context of excuses and justifications that will push Turkey to militarily invade northern Syria to close the gaps and gain absolute control over an area of more than 40,000 square kilometers of the country's area."

Al-Amin concluded his speech by saying: “The matter is dangerous and not unlikely, especially after Trump’s arrival to the US presidency. The period before Trump’s arrival is considered a real opportunity for the Turkish regime to carry out its aggression on Syrian territory, exploiting international circumstances that may not care much about Turkey’s expansionist actions. This threatens the unity of Syrian territory and contributes to tearing apart what remains of this wounded homeland.”
