Syrian Interior Ministry delegation visits Kobani to discuss security; IDPs return

A delegation from the Syrian Ministry of Interior in Damascus and Aleppo arrived in Kobani today on an official visit to discuss ways to strengthen security and stability and create the necessary conditions to ensure the safe return of displaced people to their homes, particularly to Serêkaniyê and other parts of Syria.

The delegation included Ministry of Interior spokesperson Nour al-Din al-Baba, along with a number of security and administrative officials from Damascus and Aleppo.

The delegation held an expanded meeting at the Autonomous Administration building in Kobani, attended by representatives of the Autonomous Administration, the Council of Martyrs’ Families, civil society organizations, tribal sheikhs and notables, the Democratic Society Movement and its unions and federations, women’s organizations, and representatives of the Internal Security Forces in the Kobani area.

The discussions focused on security and stability, mechanisms for joint coordination to protect civilians, and ways to create suitable conditions for the safe and dignified return of IDPs to their areas.

The participants also discussed the challenges facing local residents, the importance of strengthening trust between official institutions and society, and the role of civil society organizations in supporting reconciliation and reconstruction efforts.

Both sides stressed the need to provide protection for those returning to their homes, particularly in the Serêkaniyê area, and to work toward removing the administrative and security obstacles preventing their return.

The visit concluded with an emphasis on maintaining communication and coordination between the delegation, the Autonomous Administration, and local institutions during the coming period, in a way that contributes to strengthening security, stability, and peace in the region.
