The Syrian Interim Government called on the United Nations Security Council to take measures to stop Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and withdraw from the areas into Syria it had penetrated, in violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

In identical letters to the Council and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Syria's UN ambassador, Qusay al-Dahhak, said he was acting "on instructions from his government" to make the demands. This appears to be the first message addressed to the United Nations from the new Syrian interim government, according to the Associated Press.

After the fall of Bashar al-Assad, Israel pushed its military forces into the buffer zone between the two countries. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously stated that their military incursion into the buffer zone on the border with Syria was "temporary." He also added that Israel will not allow “jihadist groups” to fill this void and threaten Israeli gatherings in the Golan Heights with attacks, similar to what happened on October 7.
