On Wednesday, the Syriac Union Party issued a public statement on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary. It stated, "On October 1, 2005, the announcement of the Syriac Union Party's founding brought a ray of hope to our Assyrian Syriac people, who had suffered for decades from persecution, marginalization, and displacement from their historical homeland, Bethnahrin. This body was torn apart by international agreements following World War I, for our people in Syria now to face double suffering caused by authoritarian regimes that treated them as a minority, implementing policies aimed at destroying their existence, identity, and culture, either through forced assimilation or displacement."

The party made clear in its statement that its establishment, in light of this bitter reality, came as a rejection of this humiliating situation and in defense of our national rights. We were determined to restore life to our authentic people, who had long suffered, armed with faith and will. We chose the path of sacrifice and martyrdom because it is the path that leads to dignity, freedom, and victory.

The statement affirmed, "On the first anniversary of the founding of the party after the fall of the former Assad regime, which posed a major obstacle to the aspirations of our people and the hopes of the Syrian people in general, we are continuing our hard work to achieve our goals and unite the ranks of our Christian people, with all their sects, denominations, and political forces, so that they can play a prominent role in building the future of Syria and determining its destiny."

On this occasion, the party emphasized, "Syria today is undergoing a transitional phase, having inherited the devastation and destruction caused by war, the fragmentation of its social fabric, and the spread of tension and mistrust among its components. This requires the Syrian government to direct its efforts to internal files and resolve the outstanding issues peacefully, in a manner that preserves Syria's unity, land and people, and guarantees the rights of all its national, religious, and cultural components."

The party also extended its warmest congratulations to all its members and comrades, praising their efforts in reviving the cause of the Syriac-Assyrian people. It said, "Thanks to your efforts and strong will. We have been able to revive the cause of our Syriac-Assyrian people, and you have become a source of hope for their renaissance. You are the incentive that drives us all to unite ranks to achieve our national and patriotic goals and build a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria."
