Sweida retains its security, local administration

Police forces from Sweida's native population were deployed in the village of al-Sura al-Kabira, north of Sweida, coinciding with the withdrawal of Damascus government forces. This occurred after the Druze Sheikhdom rejected the presence of any forces other than those from the city, indicating that Sweida would retain its security and local administration.

Local police forces from Sweida Governorate began entering the northern village of al-Sura al-Kabira this evening, amid reports of the withdrawal of members of the Damascus government's "General Security Service" from the area.

This deployment coincided with the immediate activation of internal security forces and police personnel from the province. This came after the Druze Sheikhdom, along with a number of religious authorities and community leaders, rejected partition and secession from Syria, refused to surrender their weapons to central authorities, and rejected the presence of foreign forces in the area other than their own.

The parties held a meeting a few days ago, attended by Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri, Sheikh Youssef Jarbou', Sheikh Hamoud al-Hanawi, Emirs Hassan al-Atrash and Yahya Amer, and a number of prominent figures and activists. The meeting resulted in several outcomes, most notably: the immediate activation of internal security forces and judicial police personnel exclusively from Sweida.

The meeting also included securing the road between Damascus and Sweida, ensuring the return of life to besieged areas, and a ceasefire throughout Syria.

This is an important step toward enhancing the security and stability of Sweida and comes within the framework of the region's sheikhs' efforts to ensure road safety and restore normalcy.
