Swedish delegation visits Foreign Relations Department 

The Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria reported receiving a political delegation from the Kingdom of Sweden, including Jonas Sjöstedt, Member of the European Parliament from the Swedish Left Party, and Ygmunt Alp, a member of the party's leadership and its head of foreign relations, at the department's headquarters in Qamishli on Tuesday.

The delegation was received by Ilham Ahmed, Co-Chair of the Department of Foreign Relations, her deputy Gulistan Ali, and Abdulkarim Omar, the Autonomous Administration's representative in Damascus.

During the meeting, Ilham Ahmed presented an overview of the situation in Syria, particularly in the areas under the Autonomous Administration, addressing the attacks the region has suffered, from the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods to other areas of North and East Syria, and the accompanying violations.

The meeting also addressed the agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Interim Government in Damascus on January 29, emphasizing the need for its full implementation.

The meeting further discussed the humanitarian situation in the city of Kobani, which is under siege, resulting in hundreds of thousands of civilians being deprived of water, electricity, and communication services, in addition to suffering from severe shortages of basic necessities.

For their part, the Swedish delegation explained that their visit comes at a critical juncture to monitor developments on the ground and to gain firsthand insight into the conditions of the tens of thousands of people forcibly displaced to the Jazera canton. They also expressed their support for the Kurdish people and the Autonomous Administration, affirming their commitment to conveying the suffering of the region's inhabitants to the European Parliament and the international community.

This meeting is part of the Autonomous Administration's ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen communication with international partners and highlight the political and humanitarian developments in the region.
