Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria is reeling from shock and concern after violent clashes broke out on July 13 between local factions and forces loyal to Syria’s transitional government.

The clashes have led to the disappearance of at least 560 individuals, including 52 women and 26 children, according to documentation by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

These confrontations were accompanied by documented violations, including arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, and summary executions of civilians, fueling fears of recurring waves of violence in the region.

Despite the announcement of a field agreement to cease hostilities on July 19, the fate of the missing remains shrouded in uncertainty.

Relatives continue to issue appeals to relevant authorities to clarify the whereabouts of their loved ones and ensure their safety. Meanwhile, southern Syria remains in a state of fragile tension, with the risk of renewed conflict if concrete steps are not taken on the ground.
