The decision issued by the Ministry of Education in the Syrian Interim Government, numbered /1617/943, regarding certificates issued by the Autonomous Administration, was welcomed within educational and student circles in the regions of Rojava, alongside demands to complete this step by recognizing university and higher institute certificates.

The decision is based on the provisions of Law No. 31 of 2024, while emphasizing consideration of the circumstances and legal status of students in the eastern provinces. Many students and academics viewed it as an important step toward recognizing the outcomes of the educational process in the region.

In this context, student Hevi Osman from the Teachers’ Training Institute in the city of Hasakah, studying in the Mathematics Department, said that students feel great happiness following the decision. She added that this step is the result of many years of struggle and the sacrifices of martyrs.

She stated that thousands of students who pursued their education in Kurdish in schools, institutes, and universities see the decision as recognition of their efforts and of their right to learn in their mother tongue. She emphasized that the sacrifices of martyrs played a fundamental role in reaching this stage.

Hevi Osman also called for extending recognition to include certificates issued by universities and institutes affiliated with the Autonomous Administration, ensuring students’ rights and their academic and professional future.

For his part, student Mohammed Hassan explained that teaching Kurdish in schools over the years has strengthened students’ connection with their mother tongue and culture, and that recognizing certificates represents an important step reflecting the efforts made during recent years.

He added that students continue to work and strive in various academic fields, expressing hope that recognition would eventually include university certificates as well, ensuring the preservation of educational achievements gained over recent years through great struggle and the sacrifices of martyrs.

Meanwhile, Awaz Hussein, the official responsible for student affairs at the Teachers’ Training Institute, confirmed that reaching this stage came after years of work and sacrifices.

She noted that educational institutions in the region had succeeded in building an educational experience that enabled students to study in their mother tongue and develop their scientific and academic abilities.

She also expressed hope that efforts aimed at strengthening recognition of educational institutions and their outcomes would continue, in a way that serves students and enhances the status of the educational process in the region.
