The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that masked men stormed the rooms of Alawite students at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering within the university dormitory in Damascus.

According to the SOHR, the masked individuals broke into the students’ rooms after midnight while carrying bladed weapons.

Reports indicate that the attacks were concentrated in Units 9 and 17, where specific rooms were directly targeted, sparking fear and tension among resident students amid concerns over a possible escalation of such incidents.

According to the information, the attackers are believed to be students residing in the dormitory and originating from the Damascus countryside. Some of them were reportedly identified by individuals present at the scene, though no official measures against them have been announced so far.

In the same context, the report pointed to information about a student figure inside the dormitory known as the “Sheikh of the Dormitory,” who reportedly holds influence over a number of students, raising questions about the nature of internal groups or influence networks within the residence.

According to the same sources, complaints were submitted to the security and administrative authorities inside the dormitory following the incident, but the response was reportedly limited, with no clear measures taken to stop the attacks or hold those involved accountable.

According to activists, these incidents have renewed calls for stronger security measures inside university dormitories to ensure students’ safety and prevent the recurrence of such attacks.
